Support Group Meeting In Pembrokeshire

Twenty tradesmen die every week of an asbestos related illness.  Pembrokeshire is not immune from the effects of this fatal fibre. Over the last couple of weeks cases have been reported in the local papers of men dying from the asbestos cancer mesothelioma. Asbestos is the biggest cause of occupational lung cancer, with 125 million people in the world exposed to asbestos in work and claiming at least 107,000 lives each year. Asbestos is still present in 1.5 million properties in the United Kingdom.  All types of asbestos can affect your health.

The Pembrokeshire asbestos support group meets monthly with the next meeting on Thursday April 19th in Milford Haven Golf Club, SA73 3RX, at 10.30am. We are pleased to welcome Sarah Morgan, All Wales Mesothelioma Uk Specialist Nurse who will lead a question and answer session about this asbestos caused cancer and talk about what is important for mesothelioma care in Pembrokeshire.

At the last meeting Amanda Jones , a specialist occupational disease solicitor provided a fascinating presentation about the many cases of firms large and small,  which have been prosecuted across Wales for exposing their workforce to the dangers of asbestos. The meeting provides an opportunity for those with asbestos related illnesses and their family members to meet together in an informal group and share stories about treatment and work experiences.

A warm welcome is extended to all to learn more about what is being done to support those exposed to asbestos in Pembrokeshire and to help us raise awareness to prevent future victims.

“We invite all those with an interest to come along to this meeting” said Lorna Johns, Manager of Asbestos Awareness & Support Cymru.  If you want to know more or are worried about your exposure to asbestos get in touch Tel: 01495 272 479 or email enquiries@a-a-s-c.org.uk.
